Sending CQ

I would like to use the benefits of RBN, but I don't know how to get my rig to send CQ.
I have full rig control of my IC706MkIIG with CQRLOG.
I can go to Preferences>CW Interface and put HamLib in the Interface Type. (I think HamLib is installed in Ubuntu, but I am not sure).
I can then go to File>CW Messages where I see that F1 is set up to do a CQ.
When I press F1 the rig does not transmit and send CQ.
What am I missing here?
Thank you.

Re: Sending CQ

Hi Wes,

sending CW over HamLib is supported only with new rigs like TS-590. The old IC706 doesn't support that. Use cwdaemon, winkeyer usb or K3NG keyer.

Sending CQ

Thanks Petr:
So I am running Ubuntu 14.04LTS. CQRLog is communicating with my 706 through "USB 4-1: PL2303 Converter now attached to ttyUSB0". I can install cwdaemon through the Ubuntu Software Center. So if I install cwdaemon can it share the ttyUSB0 with CQRLog?? or will I need a second serial converter on another USB port?
Will this worK?
I assume that after I start cwdaemon and type in "CQ", cwdaemon will key the 706 and send out the CQ? Is this true?
Is this the easiest way for me to go - not requiring a physica/external key? Much better than winkeyer usb or K3NG keyer??
Thank you,
Wes AI4FH.

Re: Sending CQ

As far as I know, cwdaemon uses parport0 as default. Unfortunately I don't remember if the cwdaemon is started when linux is booting or not. You can change the keying device, man cwdaemon will help.

I'm not sure if it will work on the same port like you use for trx control. Icom is happy with just RXD, TXD and GND but maybe cwdeamon or/and hamlib lock the port.

I'm sorry, but it had been long time since I used cwdaemon. I'm avid CW operator and sound of cw generated by cwdaemon is sometimes broken above 30WPM. Winkeyer works very well and doesn't have the problem. Also CQRLOG winkeyer USB support works as I need.
