Adding a SOTA field to the database.

The database caters for IOTA information but not for SOTA information.

Considering that recent stats showed that there were only 1400 IOTA participants but there are currently 7000 SOTA participants it would seem sensible to support SOTA.

Also the latest adif spec now contains SOTA related fields.

I use CQRLOG for recording

I use CQRLOG for recording and exporting my SOTA activations and it works great (File - Export - CSV for SOTA website).
The support for SOTA chasing is not that useful: you have an option to choose a field containing the SOTA reference, but these fields (Comment, Award, QTH) are tied to the call, not to the QSO. The typical activator operates from many different summits, so it would make more sense to put SOTA ref in the "Comments to QSO" field and have an option to use that field during export.

Re: Adding a SOTA field to the database.

Hi Colin,

I'll add the SOTA column to database. But it will be available only from edit details window. Also there is a problem with filter, the windows has too many fields and is not too user friendly. I'll added it to my TODO list and will think about that.
I agree with Marek, OK1HAG. It's much better to put this info into award field because it's available when you edit/view the QSO and also export for SOTA website can use it.

Regarding the award and qth

Regarding the award and qth fields - aren't they linked to the callsign? ie. if I add DIG to award field in a QSO with DL0XYZ, it will be set for all my QSOs with DL0XYZ?

That may be fine for awards based on club memberships, but it doesn't work well for portable activities like SOTA: a chaser may do several QSOs with a single activator in one day, and each one of them can have a different summit reference. At the end of the day, the chaser wants to export his activity and upload the CSV - that is not possible right now.

Re: Regarding the award and qth

Award, qth and all other fields except Comment to callsign are all related to the QSO only. If you have QSO with DL0XYZ and he is member of DIG and this will be inserted into award field, it won't change in previous QSO. Previous QSO have own award field with own values.

If chaser wants to export QSO, he can. He has to enter the SOTA information into QTH or Award or Comment to QSO field. What is important, he has to enter this info always in the same field. SOTA export will be able to export data and takes the ID from one them (selected).

I'm sorry, my English is probably not good enough  to explain what I mean :).

You're right, sorry for the

You're right, sorry for the confusion - I saw some fields being prefilled with the values from the previous QSO with the same station, but if I change them, they actually stay different for each QSO.

In that case, QTH / Award fields are perfectly usable for chasers to enter the worked SOTA reference there.
