<p>I have to go to Preferences > CW interface, de-select winkeyer and select cwdaemon ,then re-select winkeyer for it to work. This is repeatable.</p>

Hi,
winkeyer function keys work only if the new qso entry window is active OR when you directly click a function key in the CW keys window.
You can reload the CW interface by clicking "reload CW interface" in File pull-down menu. This might help and is easier than going to Preferences and doing this de-select re-select exercise.
I have used winkeyer for several months now and the problems I have are related to wrong USB port, but it's more like the PC or OS (currently Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) problem.
